public abstract class AbstractStatusBar
extends JPanel

implements the basic functionality for statusBars on toplevel windows. The AbstractStatusBar is intended to show messages to the user and reflect important settings. The latter depends a lot on the applications, so only an abstract interface is implemented beside the common message handling.

The AbstractStatusBar contains an Updaterthread, which is activated using the constructor with numeric parameter. That parameter specifies the milliseconds for the refresh interval of the updater thread.
The abstract extension interface consists of checkExtends, wich runs in background context and updateExtends, which runs in the Swing GUI-Thread, so it may change the content of the AbstractStatusBar.

An application should subclass AbstractStatusBar and add the components for important settings.

All applications share the same user messages and may show other different settings, special to the application. To provide the synchronous message display, all StatusBars share the same Model (Document).

There exists two kind of message calls:

setMessage

just displays a message

setTimeoutMessage

displays a message wich clears itself after the given time period. Timeperiod unit is seconds.

A sample subclass may override init() like this:

As shown in this sample, the added component has weightx=0, which means, that its size will not change during resizing of the toplevel window. This class adds one element to the StatusBar, so gridx should start with 1.
